It is owned by a local farmer, so besides veggies, they also carry free range eggs and yes raw milk. The first time I saw it, it intrigued me especially when it said it was only for animal consumption-therefore humans should not drink it. So what did I do, I bought it and drank and OMG it was soooo yummy. So I kept on drinking it. Before this monumental moment, I hardly ever drank milk. I really didn't like it. But I loved this milk. The best part is the 2-3 inches of creme at the top-perfect for a peppermint latte:)

So now I am curious, if this milk is good for me too. One thing I noticed right off the bat is it helped my digestion. I did not read about this, I just experienced it. Instead of a water or apple juice based smoothie, I started making milk based smoothie and my stomach liked it so much better. To be clear, I wasn't getting indigestion. With that experience, I decided to do a little research. This is what I found.

"we took a closer look at the claims made by groups like the FDA and CDC that raw milk is “dangerous”. We found that, though the relative risk of becoming ill from drinking raw milk is about 9 times greater than it is from drinking pasteurized milk, the absolute risk of developing a serious illness (i.e. one that would require hospitalization) from drinking raw milk is exceedingly small: about 1 in 6 million."http://chriskresser.com/raw-milk-reality-benefits-of-raw-milk.

Well That is worth the risk for me. So why should I risk it? What are the benefits.

1. Others besided myself also think it is super yummy.
2. It has a higher nutrional value. Milk that has been pasturized kills many nutrients.
3. Statistically people are more tolerant of raw milk than pasturized milk
4. There is substantial epidemiological evidence from studies in Europe that consumption of raw milk during childhood may protect against asthma, allergies and other immune-mediated diseases"
5. Buying milk from a local farmer supports the community
6. It is more sustainable. "Consuming milk that is produced by local farmers using sustainable methods has far less of an environmental impact than drinking milk produced in large confinement feeding operations thousands of miles away."

There is it in a nutshell. The important thing is to choose for yourself and listen to your body. Please do you own research. It was a treat to me to stop by and get some greasy fries and a juicy (really just fat) hamburger. It was kind of a craving. Well, it didn't happen overnight, but I no longer crave or even want that type of food. And if I do happen upon this sub standard food (not really food as it contains 0 energy), I feel ill. And this is not out of guilt. My body just knows the difference between real food and not real food.

How did I do this. A little by intention, but mostly by just eating well. The more I ate meals with real nutrition, the less I wanted that chicken Mc'nugget. Speaking of, don't you just love how the fast food restaurants are all offering the dollar menu. I think it is conspiracy to get people hooked and definitely appeals to the people with not alot of change in their pocket. Let's face it, it fills you up. But the problem is, that it doesn't ultimately satisfy. At least from my experience, when I eat well-food filled with energy, I am satisfied and have more energy.

I want to share a simple meal I made last night and boy was it yummy. I made some veggie patties. I didn''t follow a recipe, I just went with taste and consistency. Here's my recipe:

1 can of organic chickpeas (you could soak some dried ones yourself if you want)

1 can of organic black beans (I suggest using the can- I soaked black beans for two days and still couldn't get them to be soft)

Rice-about 1 cup dried to make two cups prepared

1/2 onion chopped

Seasoned with sea salt, pinch cayenne pepper, cumin to taste

Parsley chopped

3 eggs

Powdered oatmeal-you can use flour or anything you like to soak up the liquid

___________________________________________________________________________

Top with Cukes, Tomatoes, Lettuce, Avocado ect.

I mixed all the ingredients together except the powdered oatmeal. Squished and mashed the ingredients then added enough powdered oatmeal to hold the patty together. Then simply fried them in sunflower oil on low to medium heat. SUPER DELICIOUS. This makes about 8 patties, so I froze of them. I hope I remember them:)

Hope you like this recipe! Don't be anxious about changing, just take baby steps and you will naturally change because your body will feel and love the difference.

Love y'all
I love choices and am thankful I get to make them every day. Like should I get up (glad I can) or should I stay in bed (if I want to get fired:), Do I want to smile or be grumpy, Will I appreciate and love all living beings or will create a division so I can justify my dislike. This is one that we can all relate to, Do I eat that sweet or do I say no. Not so hard for me when it is store bought because I generally don't like eating preservatives, dyes, and fake sugars. But oh, if you make it, I have to have it, right? REALLY......maybe not.

Did you know that it is YOUR choice? How many times have I heard myself or others say, "oh-it so difficult where I work or live because of all the junk that people bring in. It is so hard to not eat it." It is hard, I agree, but I think it is hard because deep inside we feel we don't have a choice. I had to, I couldn't help myself and so on. I go there and you probably do too.

One day, as I was putting a yucky sweet in my mouth because I thought "it is there, got to do it", I actually tasted it and noticed how aweful it really was and spit it out. You might say, well so what, I would have spit it out too. But when I did that, I connected with the intellegence of my body and realized right then and there that I did not like it and I did not HAVE to eat it. The difference is I realized I had a choice.

So what choices am I making these days. Eating healthy for me is not hard because I actually like good food. So no problem. Recently, as you might know in a previous post that I am making the choice to only drink pure spring water. Another choice is I realized that I really don't need wine. I am not saying wine is bad, in fact there are lots of evidence that says that a little wine is good for you. But I think my body does not want it anymore, and my emotions and choices I make while drinking wine are not serving me. I am feeling that I need to sustain from wine for a while and just live right here, right now. You are probably thinking well how much wine does she drink. Not much but too much for me right now.

My commitment to listen to my body, mind and spirit is my choice and thankful I can have that choice.

It was like out of a picture. One large swimming hole with two additional levels of jacuzzi's with there own water falls. I am so thankful I live in an area where swimming is healthy, fun and I know that water is clean. Enjoying this made me think about the water we drink everyday. I have been making a special effort to only drink spring water directly from a natural spring.

Drinking water directly from a natural spring in your area in my opinion is the best water you can get. Everyone know how important water is to your health. For years we have been told that drink 8 glasses a day. But what kind of water is probably more important.

Providing that you know that the source of the spring is clean, I recommend drinking spring water over other types. Why? Because the sparkling clean taste is awesome of course! It also contains a level of minerals that is beneficial to health for most living things. Mineral-rich water will usually have a neutral or slightly alkaline pH.

Drinking alkaline water will help to neutralize acidity in the body and can reduce the amount of free radical damage. It will also help to keep bones and teeth strong and dense. Distilled water and reverse osmosis is lacking in the amount of minerals spring water contains.

I live in Asheville, NC where getting spring water can be challenging but not impossible. There are three places that I know about. On highway 9 going away from Black Mountain, about a 5 minute drive, you will see a white pipe off to the side of the road spewing out lots of spring water. Another place is about 1/4 mile hike along the river on the gravel road at balsalm knob. And lastly at mile marker 395 on the Blue Ridge Parkway, hike the gravel road heading south about 1/4 of a mile and you will find water on the left.

If anyone else knows of good spots let me know. Hope you all find your specials swimming hole and natural spring this summer:)
What makes them awesome. Well, you leave feeling way better, they deliver more than you expect, and lastly their prices are less than what you would expect.

I love R.J. Burle Chiropractic. He does more than crack bones. In fact, that is not his focus. He tunes into you and works to correct those problems through Kinesiology, cranial sacrum and muscle manipulation along with some secondary medical devices. If a bone moves in the process, then so be it. In the end, you feel peaceful and well. R.J is located downtown Asheville, NC on grove street.

In the same building is another one of my favorites. At Peoples Acupuncture, Sam and his associates offer community accupuncture with a personal style. Through some simple questions, Sam will also tune into what your body and mind needs. Although you are put into a room with some other patients, it is very calm and relaxing. The best part is you determine how long you need to stay for the magic to happen. And as an extra very valuable benefit, Sam offers amazing advice on your diet and supplementation to help you recieve optimal health.

There are many wonderful places to practice yoga and the place I love is http://ashevillecommunityyoga.com/in Woodfin. What makes this place special is the wide variety of Yoga teachers and styles and the surrounding are very beautiful and peaceful. There are numerous programs and places to get involved that support their passion: Community Yoga. I love it when they remind you, "It is your yoga."

Right across the street is Emil Healing Art. All I can say that it is an ART and he is master. Last December, I purchased a gift certificate for myself .....it's good to be good to yourself..for one hour. I went to him with a hidden problem. I had it for so long (3 years),I did not even think about it. Every morning I would wake up with a very stiff right hand due to overuse and injury. I did not tell Emil about this but he soon found it and worked on that whole area. My appointment was for an hour, but he kept working until he was satisfied. I am more than satisfied because from that point forward, I have had no problem in my right hand. I was so appreciative that I tipped him extra for his passion to heal. Like I said, delivering more than expected.

I am sure you all have your favorites for good reasons, I just wanted to share with you mine because I am so thankful for their service.

I have lived here for over 7 years and anyone who knows me knows that I am all about the free food from Mother Earth. I don't know how this has escaped me, but I have never found a super great blackberry patch with berries plump, juicy and just the right sweetness ....until today. And I have not told you the best part, there is no competition except for the bears of course. And of course, I will leave plenty for them. No, I am not going to tell you where I found them. THEY ARE MINE....and the bears:)

What do you know about blackberries besides they are yummy and full of antioxidants helping boost the immune system to protect against desease. Well they are also germ fighters. Black berries have a high dose of ellagic acid that has anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties. And blackberries benefit the brain. Being high in antioxidants, "they fight free radical damage in the brain; affect cell signaling between neurons and reduce cellular inflammation. This improves the functioning of neurons involved in both thinking and motor control." I hope this works for me!

blueberries, they are extremely nutritious having numerous health benefits such
as <span style="color: black; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;">soluble dietary fiber, minerals, vitamins, and pigment
anti-oxidants that contribute immensely towards optimum health and wellness. Some would call it a super food. I do, but only when in season.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;">What are some of those health
benefits: Well for one, they are low in
calories so go on eat as many as you want.
One of the most important attributes are blueberries have a high level of antioxidants (more than red wine
and green tea combined) content in the form of anthocyanin’s giving its blue
color, quercetin, carotene-6 and zeaxathin.
Um, it’s not so important the names, just know that they are all high
powered antioxidants that help protect your body against free radicals keeping
your body running at optimal levels. A
rule of thumb here, the darker or more vivid color, the more antioxidants

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;">Other vitamins and mineral of blueberries
are antioxidants A, C, and E; B complex, potassium, manganese, copper, iron and
zinc.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;">Here’s a tidbit about how blueberries can
boost brain Health:

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;">“Scientists at the USDA research center
have been studying the beneficial effects of blueberries on brain function in
animal models for over a decade. Through studies with rats, researchers have
found that object memory loss, which occurs normally with age, can be prevented
and even reversed by feeding blueberries to older rats.

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;">And in a study of nine human subjects, led
by Robert Krikorian and his team at the University of Cincinnati, researchers
found that older adults who were given blueberry juice scored higher on memory
tests than those receiving a placebo. This study supports continued research on
how blueberries may serve as a preventive method for cognitive decline.”

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;">Hmmm, could use lot more of that!

<span style="color: black; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif"; font-size: 10pt; line-height: 115%;">I use blueberries in the form of a fruit
acid in my in Ageless C Serum to help exfoliate dead skin cells as well
as add antioxidants . Check it out

Wild violets are not only pretty they're edible and they've
been used for their medicinal properties longer than the United States has been
a country.-they can be tossed in a salad, used to make violet tea, violet
syrup, violet jelly, and even violet vinegar.
(Recipes at bottom) I just eat
the leaves and the flowers when I see one in the wild (free of pesticides.) . I collect them a bit off the trail so they
will less likely be peed on by an animal.
Washing them is always a good thing. Also I collect them to make violet oil I use
in my lip balms.

If you get the chance to eat a violet and I hope you do,
notice that it is very slippery. Also, violets
are full of Vitamin C and Queritin.
Quercitin is a bioflavonoid and boost the effectiveness of Vitamin
C. Also Quercitin has been indicated
useful in diminishing allergies-due to its decrease in mass cells responsible for Inflammatory response.(This is where more investigation is needed for more information) So
knowing that violets are slippery and full of Vitamin C makes it an ideal
choice to soothe a sore throat or cough.
Its slippery qualities make it a gentle laxative.

FREE FAT LIP BALM

As mentioned, I make a violet with added Chickweed to make
lip balms. I chose these because Violets
and Chickweed are full of nutrition and are very emollient. I made a fat lip balm to plump up and moisturize
your lips. To all local Ashevillians, I
will be at the North Asheville Tailgate Market on April 19th and The
Herb Fest May 2-4th. Mention this
blog, like me on Facebook, and I would love to give you one at the events.

it over and back up again daily to promote dispersion and immerse the flowers.
After three or four days, strain out the flowers through a plastic strainer or
coffee filter. Re-cap and store in a cool, dry, dark place for up to one year.

Simple lifestyle changes for optimal health: One Brazil Nut a Day

I take a brazil nut once a day if I remember -maybe more gingko
would helpJ Why because brazil nuts are loaded with selenium, crucial for proper
functioning of the body and excellent for the health of the skin.

Selenium is a trace mineral and antioxidant, and is required
for the proper activity of a group of enzymes collectively called glutathione
peroxidase. These enzymes each help turn toxic hydrogen peroxide into harmless
water. Of the eight known glutathione
peroxidase enzymes, five of them require selenium. Well, I am don’t completely understand that,
but if we did not get rid of the hydrogen peroxide produced from the many
reactions that takes place to keep us alive, we would die. What I better understand is selenium is
involved in recycling of vitamin C from its spent form back to its active
one, allowing for greater antioxidant protection. Wow, that is what I am interested in!

The selenium content in foods depends on the concentration
of selenium in the soil where the crops were grown, but unfortunately nearly
all trace minerals are widely depleted in the soils that grow our food
including Selenium. That's because
conventional agriculture extracts these minerals from the soils, year after
year, while replenishing none of them.
Besides the brazil nut, other foods are Besides the Brazil nut which has the highest
amount of selenium, other good sources
of selenium: Sunflower Seeds, Fish (tuna, halibut, sardines, flounder, salmon),
Poultry (chicken, turkey), Eggs, Mushrooms (button, crimini, shiitake),Grains
(wheat germ, barley, brown rice, oats), and onions.

Selenium is very important for healthy skin. In addition to Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Beta-carotene,
Omega 3, Selenium, a strong antioxidant helps protect the skin from sun damage
and maintain firmness and elasticity. Other
plant sources of selenium are chickweed and horsetail. Well right now in the spring, you can go out
on most paths and find chickweed growing along the path. Take a nibble, your body will love it! Another plant is horsetail. Besides being high in silica, horsetail is also
sooths and tightens tissue. If you ever get the chance to look at horsetail, look at the various joints-natures signature telling youthat it is good for your joints. Because of horsetail's excellent support for the skin, I include it in my botanical complex in my Vitamin A Night Crème-Nutrition

Simple Everyday Life Changes for Optimal Health.

Since I started studying natural health 6 years ago, I have
always been interested in supporting my body with the full range of nutrition with
simple everyday foods that are readily available and meets the common pocket
book. This series of blogs will contain
highlights of such foods leaving you to do more research if desired. As some of you know, I own a naturally pure
skincare line called Zenjenskin. Many of
the suggestions on what you can take internally works well topically as well
supporting my passion that beauty is from the inside out. Our first topic is about Glyconutrients found
in Aloe Vera.

Glyco What? Well even
though you may not have heard of it, we ingest some glyconutrients every day as
they are essential to the needs of every cell in our bodies. Unfortunately, most of us don’t get enough of
them leaving our bodies depleted. For
example, today, it would take 53 peaches to give you the nutritive value that a
single peach gave you in 1950. Partly
because our soils are depleted and partly because our diet has changed from
eating lots of nutritionally based foods to fast food.

What is a Glyconutrient?

Glyconutrients are polysaccharides found in mushrooms,
breast milk, some plant gums, sea brown algae, and aloe Vera. Polysaccharides are involved in the everyday process
of cell to cell communication- the thing that happens so our cells will live
on. Um, this is where those of you
interested can do some research on your ownJ
Since we are not all mushroom, brown
algae, plant gum and breast milk consumers; we are going to focus on ALOE
VERA.

Aloe Vera has been known for centuries for its healing
powers of wounds, burns, the prevention of infection, and taken internally, it
is a great support for digestion (having prebiotic effects), immune support and
optimal brain function. You only have to slather a bit of aloe Vera on
you to know that it is cooling and soothing and will quickly calm a burn. Hmmm, didn’t know about the brain
function. You can be sure I will be
taking more of that.

working all together in a synergistic way to create healing and health giving

amino acids, anthraquinones, enzymes, minerals, vitamins, lignins,
monosaccharide, polysaccharides, salicylic acid, saponins, and sterols. Another mouth full more those who like to do
research-anyone? What is most
impressive to me is that it takes 22 amino acids to build protein, our bodies
produces all of them except 8 called essential amino acids. Aloe Vera has those 8 essential Amino
Acids. Kudos to you Aloe!!!

REALLY. I admit, even with the
information I have, it still is hard for me to drink the muddy, murky looking concoction. This blog explores the minimal facts about clay…..please
explore further on your own before you tread down this path in hopes of ingesting
all the benefits of pure calcium benonite clay.

There are many types of clay, but only one I know about that
you should ingest pure calcium benonite clay.
First, let me tell you about the different types of clay that can be
used on the skin to exfoliate, detox, soak up excess sebum (oils on the skin),
clarify, tighten and bringing color to your skin. It is one of the best instant treatments I
know of to look amazing.

clay with several different options depending on what I feel like. Some of the options are juice for additional

Clay taken internally for health benefits. The choice of taking clay internally is Pure
Calcium Kaolin Clay. Pure Calcium
Bentonite clay contains more than 70 trace minerals. By mixing Pure Calcium
Bentonite clay with water either internally or externally the expanded
particles develop into a large surface which enables them to pick up many times
their own weight of various body toxins. This wide surface is made of a great
number of tiny platelets, each with a negative electrical attraction for
positively charged toxins. Bentonite clay's negative charge is responsible for
its amazing detoxifying properties: it is a magnet for many toxic elements
present in the human body (heavy metals, pesticides, and free radicals), which
are positively charged. This physical pulling power of Pure Calcium Bentonite
Clay also has an absorbent action (like sticky paper) as toxins are drawn into
the porous surface of the clay. For more

Bowel Detox

Mix 1 tsp. (4.93 ml) of bentonite clay, 1 tsp. (4.93 ml) of
powdered psyllium (not whole psyllium seeds or un-powdered husks), and 1/2 tsp.
(2.46 ml) of ginger powder with 1 cup (250 ml) of organic apple juice

Shake the mixture well until all of the lumps are dissolved.
Drink the shake immediately before the psyllium makes the mixture become gooey.
Do not consume any food within 2 hours before or after drinking the shake
because the food will be absorbed by the clay. Do not drink more than 5 shakes
a day. I would also add to this a
daily lemon water drink. Also be sure to
drink plenty of water because bentonite clay can cause you to be constipated. Also during a bowel cleanse, it is best to
eat as little as possible sticking to juices made up of anything you like.

disappears during the hot weather and reappears when the weather cools again.
It is a welcome surprise because most the of the wild edibles are dormant until

patch, pick it, eat it raw, or blend in smoothies or make it into a pesto.

Honeysuckle
flowers invoke dreams of love and passion
Living in the Blue
Ridge Mountains, I have the privilege of enjoying many botanical
delights. We have numerous wild, invasive plants and when I hear that a plant
is invasive my interest peaks because it means it’s plentiful and if it’s
plentiful to me that’s nature’s way of saying, “I’m available for you and your
health. Come get me.”Let me introduce you to one of my favorite wild invasive
plants.
If you have ever walked past honeysuckle
vines, which are plentiful in our area, a sweet, pungent aroma will fill your
senses. Perfume companies have long recognized the pleasant aroma
and have used it in potions for many years. The honeysuckle flower
has a reputation for being associated with love and the bonds of love due to
its sweet aroma and the fact that its flower looks like two lovers intertwined.
The scent of honeysuckle is said to cause dreams of love and passion. Oh
la la!
Plucking off a flower or two and sucking the
honey at the base of the flower is an experience like no other. It is one of my
favorite childhood pastimes that has continued into adulthood. Wild honeysuckle
(Japanese Honeysuckle or Lonicera Japonica) contains sweet nectar that’s just
like… you guessed it…. honey. Honey bees like it too, but their bodies
are too large to get inside the horn shaped flower, so they poke holes in the
outside of the flower and take honeysuckle nectar without pollinating the
blooms. The task of pollinating is left to the long tongued moth.
The flowers of the Honeysuckle have
anti-inflammatory, antiviral, anti-bacterial, and astringent properties.
The nutrients in Honeysuckle are many, including Vitamin
C, Bioflavonoids, Antioxidants, Quercitin, and Salicylic Acid.
Antioxidants: fight free

Other benefits

The actions of Bioflavonoids, Vitamin C and
the antiviral properties of the honeysuckle flower make it a good choice for
cough and flu remedies. An infusion of the flowers can be used as a tea
for coughs and colds as well as upper respiratory tract infections. In
addition, the combination of Quercitin, and Vitamin C has anti-viral properties
and is helpful is reducing the histamine reaction common in allergies and
asthma.

My name is Jen and I am the founder and creator of an
organic anti-aging skincare line. My
journey began about 6 years
ago when I was blessed to move to the mountains of North Carolina. My home is in Asheville where I spend many
hours walking in the mountains with my best friend Ray (dog) discovering the
many plant and trees useful for food and medicine.

I chose Asheville because I love the mountains and wanted to
live in an area where natural healing is taught and the residents are very
knowledgeable. When I arrived, I
enrolled in a 9 month herbal medicine course where I began learning all about
the healing powers of plants. Soon
after, I enrolled in a class working towards a diploma in Holistic Health. My classed ranged from Physiology and
Anatomy, Nutrition, to Essential Oils.
Three years later, I received my diploma.

During that time, I learned how to make tinctures, medical
teas, healing salves, nourishing oils and extracts. As my passion grew, I focused on how
nutrition and more specifically plants nourishes and supports the skin. Out of all these experiences grew my
anti-aging skin care line, Zenjenskin.

Vitamin A is essential
for tissue growth in the body. Carrots contain vitamin A in the form of
beta-carotene, is an excellent natural antioxidant. Antioxidants slow down the process of aging
by scavenging on free radicals. These free radicals cause many health problems
like eczema, dermatitis, wrinkles and even rashes. The best thing to know is that Vitamin A
increases the skin’s immunity against sun acting as a natural sun block. Thus,
